My Story

Early Years (Zip Is It):

Born on April 19, 1991, at Crown Center Farms in Columbia, Missouri, Zip Is It (“Zip”) was a purebred Appaloosa. In 1993, he moved to Richland, Missouri, and later to Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, in 1995, where he was lovingly cared for by families who recognized his unique character and gentle nature.

Mid Years (Zip Is It):

Zip eventually found a home in South Florida, where he was adopted by a young rider and her family. Together, they participated in show jumping events and joined the South Florida Trail Riders Club. Known for his personality and pranks, Zip was also affectionate, often resting his head on the shoulders of those who cared for him.

As life progressed, the family had to make the difficult decision to rehome Zip when the young rider went to college. Zip was sold to a neighbor who enjoyed pleasure riding and local shows. Unfortunately, financial hardships led to Zip being sold again, and his original family lost track of him.

Meanwhile, the South Florida SPCA rescued a severely neglected horse, later named Jessy, who had been cruelly mistreated. With the compassionate care of volunteers, Jessy made a remarkable recovery. During this time, the SPCA discovered that Jessy was, in fact, Zip, and reunited him with his former caregivers, who were overjoyed to see him again.

Later Years (Jessy):

Despite his past hardships, Jessy remained a kind and gentle horse, always getting along with others. He continued to be ridden and was a favorite at every barn he stayed in. Jessy spent his final years in retirement in beautiful Paris, Kentucky, where he passed away on May 15, 2020. His life brought together a community of people who continue to cherish the friendships and memories he created.
